Nuts and Bolts:

On August 29, near Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, spectators will be treated to a five-ring circus courtesy of Marco Green, Carl Holmfelt, John McCorkle, Joe Soliman, and Todd Tyler: aka Team Matador Circus. When they’re not assuming the roles of a bearded lady, the world’s tallest man, the “cannon shot dude,” a strong man, and a ringmaster, these five buddies work at Matador Distributing – the Atlanta-based company that provides the finest in beverages to customers in central and north Georgia, Athens, western North Carolina, Tennessee from Macon north to Chattanooga, and, of course, Atlanta itself.

When it comes to maintaining the hydration level of the southeastern United States, these guys don’t clown around; but in their free time, they fly without a net. On evenings and weekends, they’re assembling their competitive racer in the shape of an old-timey circus tent with a cannon up front – they’re not kidding when they say they actually intend to turn one team member into a human cannonball! Although these contenders have never before competed in a soapbox race, they did get the chance to observe a Red Bull Flugtag human-powered flight competition, so they know what it takes to earn the loyalty of spectators. “Our dancing ability is second to none, and our sleight of hand is freakishly accomplished,” hints Carl. “We think we will win,” he continues, sucking in his stomach, “as long as we can manage not to exceed the weight limit!”
