Brick House
Garage Headquarters: St. Charles, MO
Driver: Aimee Dorman
Mechanics: Al Brody, Bill Coker, Dominic Florin, Kurt Chelf
Nuts and Bolts:
Captain Aimee Dorman says, “’Brick House’ is not only a great dance song, it’s a long-shot concept to win any kind of race. Would you bet on a brick house getting a move on? It’s not just fun, it’s downright funny!” If anyone can transform a laughably clunky brick house into a sleek winning machine, it’s Aimee and her team of Red Bull champions. Three members of Brick House competed at Red Bull Dragsterday Detroit 2005, where the trio won it all.
As if that isn’t enough street cred, Aimee and Brick House buddy Dominic Florin are also teammates for the Boulder Kinetic Sculpture Challenge. (Brick House mechanic Al Brody also participates in a similar competition.) That means that these folks feel right at home operating homemade, human-powered works of art. With one retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and one retired Major joining the three kinetic-sculpture fanatics, these folks sure look like they know what they’re doing. (They list “chloroplast” among their construction materials, for cryin’ out loud.)
While it’s tempting to hate on winners, Brick House make pretty lovable champs. Following their Detroit triumph, Aimee’s crew donated their cash prize to the Red Cross to help Hurricane Katrina victims. By encouraging people to match their contribution, Aimee and company raised a total of $17,000.
