Cyclones

Garage Headquarters: Cincinnati, OH

Driver: Andrew Rowland

Mechanics: Terry Cloyd, Joe Stills, Mike Cox, Chris Bukas

Nuts and Bolts:

Working for the franchise with the second-best winning percentage in Cincinnati pro-sports history has transformed once-mortal Team Cyclones into unflinching demigods of all things victorious. In the cubicles of U.S. Bank Arena, Chris Bukas (better known as Chuck Butkis) sets an office-wide record for slaying 22 hot dogs in 15 minutes. Downstairs on the regulation ice rink, Terry Cloyd (better known as Twister, the Cincinnati Cyclones’ official mascot) practices for his own upcoming record-breaking effort. During the upcoming ECHL season, Twister will attempt to establish a new standard for sliding across ice on one’s head.
The Cyclones hockey team took home the ECHL championship this year. Chris and Terry -- along with colleagues Andrew Rowland, Joe Stills and Mike Cox -- hope to extend this culture of excellence to Red Bull Soapbox Cincinnati 2008. Team captain Andrew explains that when repping the reigning ECHL champion in a soapbox competition, there’s only one choice for your racer. You gotta build “a machine so wonderful that it plays a key part in making the game of hockey possible: the Zamboni.” Andrew will hop behind the wheel of the model ice re-surfacer after emerging from an all-team hockey brawl. But what if by some freak occurrence these perpetual winners slip up? “We plan on winning or going down in a blaze of glory,” Andrew says. “Either way it should be fun for everyone.”
