First Step - select a team:

Experimentelles StraBenAutoMark 91

Garage Headquarters: Fort Collins, CO

Driver: TBD

Mechanics: Adam Ashbaugh, Bryan Dierschow, Adam Johnson, Jake Wakefield, Danny Wilson

Nuts and Bolts:

Bryan Dierschow and Danny Wilson have known each other since first grade. They befriended Adam Ashbaugh and Jake Wakefield during middle school and later brought Jake’s college roommate Adam Johnson into the exclusive group they call “Whiznitch.” The friends have always engaged in “cheeky shenaniganery” ranging from building haunted houses to inventing sports like the hackeysack-hockey hybrid Hackhock (try saying THAT five times!). Bryan, Adam A., and Danny even competed at a Denver Red Bull Soapbox Race in 2002, where they served up a wheeled burrito. Now in their early twenties, most of the teammates have recently graduated – from school, and to ever more challenging projects, like finding gainful employment and, of course, designing a new soapbox racer.

Calling their entry “Experimentelles StraßenAuto Mark 91,” the teammates are sealing themselves in an underground laboratory where, with only the sounds of David Hasselhoff and German techno to inspire them, they’re implementing “unparalleled German efficiency” to create a vehicle that’s half car, half stealth bomber. They plan to have their prototype finished several weeks before the race, leaving time for testing, refinements, and the time trials that will determine the team’s driver. “Ja…I mean, yes, our combination of performance and creativity should put us in a good position on race day,” Bryan assesses. “Plus, more than anything, we’re coming to have a ridiculous amount of fun.”
