First Step - select a team:

Fly, My Pretties, Fly!

Garage Headquarters: Denver, CO

Driver: Makai "The Prince" Hall

Mechanics: Cy "Crankshaft" Davis, Chad "Chaco" Harrison, Hayden "Ruf" Kizman, Carl "Flash" Leonard

Nuts and Bolts:

After hours of meditation and frank discussion, Cy Davis, Makai Hall, Chad Harrison, Hayden Kizman, and Carl Leonard have managed to sum up what the Red Bull Soapbox Race means to them. Chad, the team’s captain, has a quaver in his voice as he verbalizes their mission. “The race, for us, embodies that rare, but defining, moment in an advanced society such as ours where fearless adults may finally shatter the stifling chains of normality by reveling in childish display, whilst testing their mettle as death-defying speed engineers, their only aim to spread laughter (and possibly horror) to the masses.” Clearing his throat, he completes the thought, “That, and the fact that we’ll use any excuse to dress up in cool costumes and shoot off confetti cannons.”

Chad, if you hadn’t guessed by his prose (whilst?!?), is a Denver lawyer, and whilst he is the loquacious mouthpiece for his team, the rest of the group, with experience in engineering and contracting, are the vehicle design and construction experts. Unfortunately, they don’t have a cobbler in the crew, because they’re building their racer in the shape of a stupendous shoe. Consummate competitors, the teammates, who range in age from 36 to 53, are reluctant to reveal the details of their costumes and presentation before race day, but here’s a hint: That shoe they’re building? It’s a ruby slipper.
