Creating a successful soapbox entry is all about trust: If you’re the mechanics, you’ve got to trust your driver to show the finesse and fortitude that will master the course. If you’re the person behind the wheel, you’ve got to trust those mechanics to create a vehicle worthy of your talents – and to give you a good push. The last time Ryan Armento pushed his team driver Erik Jorgensen, it was off a chair lift. And then there was the episode when Ryan broke all of Erik’s fingers… But somehow the two longtime friends maintain an all-important trusting bond; so, with the help (or is it the protection?) of Erik’s girlfriend Patricia Lindholm and his dad Steve, they’ll be relying on each other once again as they aim for victory at Red Rocks.

The route down Trading Post Road is a familiar one for the Morrison-based team – although Patricia is a student at Arapahoe Community College and the others pursue professions from accounting to marketing, they’ve all worked at Red Rocks concerts. And they’ll offer quite a show themselves come October 25. “We were inspired by ‘Saved by the Bell,’ Bula hats, 80s pop, and the movies ‘Breakin’ and ‘Breakin’ 2,’” says a smiling Ryan as Patricia teases his hair into a coiffure from the unforgettable epoch. Erik adds confidently, “I don’t think we will win; I know we will. We are stoked!”
