Nuts and Bolts:

TEAM NAME: Pacific Pillows Sleepmobile 7000

MECHANICS: Justin Bateman, Sara Dalton, Scoty Graber, Chris Larson, Jessica Perez, Emily Petrazio

NUTS AND BOLTS: Justin Bateman, Ethan Chumley, Sara Dalton, Scoty Graber, Chris Larson, Jessica Perez, Emily Petrazio, and Tim Schroeder love to compete, whether individually or as a group. Scoty and Tim are Ironman triathletes, Sara is a former All-American sprinter, Chris was a college crew athlete, and they all “routinely compete and lose” in weekly trivia contests held in pubs around Denver. “We're a likeable bunch of music and party people who will get up for a 6:00am workout and still keep the party going at 2:00am,” says Tim. “For us, the Red Bull Soapbox Race is a chance for fun and sport to collide in an event where anyone of any age can have that ‘I can do that, too’ moment.”

The teammates – who are all in their twenties and thirties – have found an ageless theme for their racer: a pajama party, complete with a pillow fight. Tim is director of operations for PacificPillows.com, which offers just about the largest selection of luxury pillows anywhere, so the flannel-clad crew will be well stocked for a wild throwdown of the, ah, down before launching their bed-shaped racer from the start line. “Our bed with wheels, though extremely awesome, is probably not aerodynamic,” acknowledges Tim, who will pilot the craft with Ethan’s help. “But just being selected was an honor, and being able to toe the line on race day will be a dream come true.”
