Nuts and Bolts:
The Red Bull Soapbox Race attracts people from all walks of life – even millionaires. Ed Toutant, the captain (he prefers “head cheese”) of a team called “The Power of Cheese,” won $1,860,000 on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” making him history’s second-biggest television game show winner. And he couldn’t have done it without his Soapbox teammates Paul Bailey, Daniel Dorrell, Aimee Dorman, and Kerry McDonald. “The team established its roots at the University of Colorado Trivia Bowl and later grew to include the people on my ‘Phone-a-Friend’ team when I was being grilled by Regis Philbin,” Ed explains. “They helped me answer a crucial question about cheese, and the rest is history.” The Power of Cheese is a tribute to those supportive smartypants.
While Ed will be bankrolling the effort (duh!), each of the teammates brings something unique to the mix. Paul is president of the Game Show Congress and on the board of the International Quiz Association. Aimee once played Magenta in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Daniel is a retired carpenter, with the skills for building a racer and the time to apply them. And Kerry? According to Ed, “Kerry has been going downhill for years.” They entered the race for the fun of it; but if they win, so much the better. Ed ventures, “We on The Power of Cheese team simply hope that there will be no lactose-intolerant judges.”
