The Procrastinators
Garage Headquarters: Superior, CO
Driver: Shaun Hicks
Mechanics: Shaun Hicks, Michael Hicks, Ryan Yeash
Nuts and Bolts:
With Denver’s Red Bull Soapbox Race set to occur less then two weeks before the U.S. presidential election, and with the Democratic National Convention occurring right in the Mile-High City itself, it’s not surprising that one Colorado team was inspired to create a racer in homage to a great leader of our time. When Shaun Hicks, Mike Hicks, and Ryan Yeash step up to the starting line, they’ll cue the stirring strains of “Hail to the Chief” and reveal a racer shaped like none other than…Broncos Hall-of-Famer John Elway? “Our soapbox car is a dedication to a man who not only inspired us, but who also inspired thousands of other locals,” Mike explains. “I can almost guarantee that our soapbox will win over the hearts of millions of fans around the nation.”
There’s no question that Mike is captain of a Superior team. (The threesome hail from Superior, about half an hour northwest of the Colorado city that Elway put on the map.) But Superior or not, these dudes admit that they tend to put things off: that’s why they’ve named their group The Procrastinators. “Other than our commitment to our long-term relationship with sports, we have all the time in the world,” Mike says casually. “Our team chemistry is unmatched, and we will work harder than anyone else – at the last minute.”
