Wahooligans
Garage Headquarters: Denver, CO
Driver: Chris Glynn
Mechanics: Adam Kerr, Marcus Goodrich, Igor Nemerzhitskiy, Julia Mariano
Nuts and Bolts:
There’s something fishy about one particular Red Bull Soapbox Denver entry, and the teammates behind the effort aren’t ashamed to admit it. “We all work for Wahoo’s Fish Taco!” declares Julia Mariano, referring to the Mile-High City’s popular chain. “Our soapbox car is going to look like the Wahoo’s logo.” Julia and fellow Wahooligans Chris Glynn, Marcus Goodrich, Adam Kerr, and Igor Nemerzhitskiy are using their office garage to house a taco-shaped racer-in-the-making, which is composed of random components including a lawnmower, bicycle tires, chicken wire, fabric, and two-by-fours. “We’re a team of lean, mean, taco-makin’ machines,” says Chris, who, like most of his teammates, is a Wahoo’s general manager. “Making a bunch of hardware look appetizing is definitely a challenge, though.”
Making it fun is no sweat for these teammates, however. They’re used to bringing good times to the public. They’ve been brainstorming ideas like dressing their pit crew as a chicken, a pig, a cow, and a shrimp to represent the range of options on the menu in their restaurants. Or perhaps they’ll subtly play up their namesake dish by blasting Phish songs from the racer’s stereo. They’re not sure which performance enhancements they’ll decide on in the end, but they’re sure of one thing: no matter what they come up with for race day, it’ll be tasty.
