First Step - select a team:

Borderline

Garage Headquarters: Thousand Oaks, CA

Driver: Brian Hynes

Mechanics: Michael Thayne, Bryan Sollima, Elliot Pollack, Bobby Langin, Jr.

Nuts and Bolts:

“I honestly cannot think of a single reason why any non-sane person – and by non-sane I’m including all of us on Team Borderline – would not sign up for the Red Bull Soapbox Race,” says Brian Hynes. The 29-year-old has never personally participated in such an event before, but he and his teammates feel that they’re a perfect fit: they’re into autos and they love to show people a good time. Brian and his co-pilot Thayne run the popular Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, a venue famed not only for its outstanding food and drink, but for its country nightclub theme. As Brian relates, their soapbox racer will reflect its heritage: “There will be country music playing off the vessel as well as an old-fashioned bank robbery and shoot-out before we hop in our get-away hat,” he grins.

The two drivers can put full confidence in their pit crew. Cody Madaxx is a BMW auto mechanic, and Brian Sollima owns and operates MPCC, a motorcycle performance and collision center in Agoura Hills, where the team is fabricating their racer. Meanwhile Elliot Pollock works at Kibbetech, a Simi Valley shop that specializes in off-road fabrication and design. “The effects of the economy have brought some challenging times over the last year, which is a big part of what has brought us all together as friends,” Brian Hynes comments. He continues, “We’ll win the crowd, I can promise you that – but with this crack squad, it won’t be with good looks or dashing smiles!”
