As competitors, Travis Abels, Brad Ashton, Cassie Beebe, Bailey Damast, and Kyle Stevens are a cut above. Combining their many talents (acting, photography, editing, music) as Team Mustachios, these Los Angeles–area teammates are in fighting trim and ready for their brush with greatness. “We all have rather large noses, so our theme seemed appropriate,” says Travis, demonstrating the kind of cheeky lip that earned him the dual role of team captain and driver. “Our car will be made of steel, rubber, chicken wire, papier måché, and good ol’ fashioned moxie.”

On break from a moto-manscaping session at Brad’s house, Travis bristles at the suggestion that things could get hairy on the treacherous course in downtown Los Angeles. Instead of contemplating a close shave, he prefers to wax rhapsodic about how much the Moustachios will tickle the crowd. “Few things are more appealing than a moustache on wheels, and we will be putting on a show of epic proportions,” he vows. “Believe you me, there won’t be a dry nose in the house.” Then he adds, “Silliness aside, some of us really do have experience building things: sets…houses…even relationships – and that’s not easy in Hollywood.” To put the best face on their entry, Travis also provides a disclaimer. “We all care very much about the environment, despite our heavy use of aerosol shaving cream,” he declares. “It’s just one of those unavoidables in the moustache business.”
