The colorful neighborhood that will host San Francisco’s Red Bull Soapbox Race is known as “the Mission” in recognition of its historic focal point, Mission Dolores, home of California’s oldest original intact mission and the oldest building in The City by the Bay. Some visitors come to the Mission for its history, some for its lively diversity, and some for awesome nightlife – but all appreciate its authentic food. The Buzzillions Burrito Bombers are no different. “As some might know, the Mission District lays claim to being the originator of the now world-famous Mission Burrito,” says team captain Mark Baker. “To honor this amazing culinary accomplishment, we will construct our ride in the likeness of a taco truck.”

Mark and his teammates Angela Broad, Terra Curtis, Yury Polnar, and Eraj Siddiqui work together at a dot-com, and they tend to have unusual hobbies. (For example, Eraj plays cricket; Terra rode a bicycle across the United States and, for some incomprehensible reason, rode across Iowa again the next year; and Mark used to compete in an underground street luge circuit, which is no doubt why he’s the team’s primary driver.) “This race is a chance to bring out the extreme athlete – or at least the inner child – in all of us,” Mark comments. “And by the way, we all share the collective attitude that second place is just the first loser.”
