If you're one of those Midwesterners who stereotypes residents of Southern California as groovy airheads, a visit to Forest Park on October 28 may give you a whole new perspective. Grant Delgatty, Peter Dericks, Luciano Mor, David Solomon, and John Wilber are traveling 1,900 miles from SoCal to prove that they're not superficial Hollywood types, ethereal hippies, spacey surfers, or vacuous Valley girls (especially not the girl part). On the contrary, these five competitors have soul.

Oh... so sorry. Bit of a typo. Let's start over: (Ahem.) These Los Angeles-area contenders are coming all the way to St. Louis with a craft made of wood, metal, and foam to demonstrate that they've got sole. Yes, that's it. These teammates are mature men in their mid-thirties who really have their feet on the ground. And when the rubber (or the leather, as the case may be) meets the road, the members of Team Sole Man think that they are – wait for it – a shoe-in for a prize. "Competitors beware!" warns Delgatty, the entry's driver. "The Sole Man is going to kick some serious asphalt!"
